Welcome to this online portfolio of my book reviews, bookish thoughts, and creative scribbles!

My name is Sydney, I am a grad student and writer based in Montreal. I have a BA in English Literature from Concordia University and an MSt in English Literature from the University of Oxford. As an undergraduate student, I studied a range of topics in Modern and Contemporary literature and literary theory, Greek literature, and Art History, but specialized in nineteenth-century ekphrastic poetry and art criticism during my graduate studies.

Since graduating from Oxford, I completed a certificate in Professional Editing at Queen’s University and I have spent much of my time working as a Library Assistant and as a freelance copywriter in Montreal. I started writing book reviews for my Instagram account and have since had the opportunity to work with Zg Stories, Penguin Random House Canada, and Europa Editions through their Influencer Programs.

As a reader, I am drawn to contemporary literary fiction, translated literature, short stories, essays, and memoirs, and have a particular interest in women’s writing. My love of language and literature have led me back to university and I am currently completing an MA in Traductologie at Concordia. My goal is to translate French literary works into English, to contribute to the academic discourse on translation, and to continue to share my passion for translated literature.
